Chacune des habitudes mentionnées dans ce texte a été démontrée scientifiquement valable pour vivre plus longtemps. En s’appuyant sur ce programme on installe sa santé sur une base sûre.
 
Pour choisir de saines habitudes de vie
1. Cocher chaque habitude qu’on a ou qu’on veut pratiquer.
2. Additionner les nombres d’année de vie active qu’on gagne à pratiquer chacune.
3. S’encourager ainsi à les pratiquer encore et mieux, car…
Quand on vit mieux on vit vieux !
 
 3            Avoir une tension artérielle de 90/65 à 120/81
 2            Ne pas fumer, ni s’exposer à la fumée, depuis plus de 5 ans
 1            Dormir 6,5 à 7,4 heures pour une femme, ou 7,5 à 8,4 heures pour un homme
 1            Pratiquer une activité physique totale plus de 60 minutes par jour
 1            Pratiquer une activité physique cardiovasculaire plus de 60 minutes par semaine
 1            Pratiquer une activité physique de force musculaire plus de 30 minutes par semaine
1             Avoir un indice de masse corporelle de moins de 18,5:
1             Avoir un pouls de moins de 76 au repos
 1            Consommer 1 consommation d’alcool par jour ou moins
 1            Avoir un taux de cholestérol de moins de 160
1             Avoir un taux de HDL (bon cholestérol) de plus de 55 mg/dl
2             Avoir des dents et des gencives saines
1             Manger moins de 1,5 % de son menu en gras saturés
1             Manger plus de 1 % de son menu en gras polyinsaturés
1             Manger 4 portions par jour ou plus
1             Manger 5 portions par jour ou plus
1             Manger plus de 30 mg de flavonoïdes par jour
2             Manger plus de 21 g de fibres par jour
2             Avoir deux parents qui ont vécu plus de 75 ans
1             Avoir 4 grands-parents qui ont vécu plus de 75 ans
1             Voir ses amis, sa parenté, ses groupes sociaux 3 à 6 fois par mois
2             Vivre en couple et en être heureux
2             Avoir une vie sexuelle satisfaisante.
